The monthly Disease surveillance and Epidemiology data review and training meeting was held on Friday, 17th May 2019 at the Conference hall of Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board. There was a total of 65 attendees which included; 20 Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (DSNOs), 24 Assistant Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers (ADSNOs), 4 Environmental Surveillance (E/S) Officers and 17 State Officers.
The purpose of the meeting was for performance review using monthly data, re-training of LGA DSNOs, ADSNOs, E/S sample collectors and the review of Disease Surveillance activities in the State.
The objectives of the meeting were:
- To update DSNOs/ADSNOs on Global, National and State Polio Eradication initiatives and certification process.
- To review status of implementation of surveillance action points.
- To update report on critical issues on AFP and other targeted diseases.
During the meeting, issues concerning Global, National and State Polio were reviewed and updated, DSNOs and ADSNOs were adequately sensitized on active case search, documentation process, e-surveillance & Emergency Operation Centre (E.O.C.)
In conclusion, disease surveillance activities (Jan-April) were successfully reviewed, DSNOs and ADSNOs were updated with more knowledge and skills in view of the upcoming documentation (mock) process. The meeting was jointly sponsored by the World Health Organization and the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board.
